"Unusually explosive… the type of clarity that emerges only after a lifetime of rehearsal." -Pitchfork
“Warren has been making music for over a decade now — her songs have become more mangled and knotted in that time, and she’s found new ways to channel her celestial intensity into something that sounds more like a black hole.” - Stereogum
Singer/songwriter and producer Johanna Warren has announced her new album Frog in the Belly of a Snake will release on January 29th through Soul Selects. Her first new album in nearly five years, Frog in the Belly of a Snake is deliberate and meditative, rooted firmly in the healing power of the natural world, with performances that tap into a profound sense of liberation while finding comfort and release in the embrace of our transience.
Warren unveiled the first look at the album with the lead single “Automatic,” a driving, angsty tune that finds the narrator exhausted by the endless cycle of striving, falling, trying again, and discovering that the only home she can ultimately count on is the one inside herself. The accompanying video features found footage filmed by a teenage Warren with a digital camcorder visualizing excerpts from her dream journal.

“Islamorada” by Johanna Warren
Johanna Warren’s “Islamorada” is a portrait of desire stripped of irony and self-protection. Her voice and acoustic guitar meet woozy electric guitar from Chris St Hilaire and warm pedal steel from David Rothon, creating a world both cosmic and deeply intimate.
“I think there’s power in owning your desire, and taking the risk of expressing it,” Warren says.

If the group’s two live releases and debut Heavenly are visceral (Raven Sings the Blues did name them “heirs to the maelstrom of High Rise”), then followup Drain stands in contrast as their cerebral offering. The sprawling experimental double album’s seven tracks guide the listener from morning to night with larger than life guitar solos, spaced-out drone excursions, and moments of potent intensity throughout. For the first time, we see Vorhex Angel trade their pummeling sonic onslaught for moody, dramatic pastures. The band—revealed to be brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall of JEFF the Brotherhood and Silver Synthetic’s Kunal Prakash—push the parameters of the Vorhex Angel concept outward, inviting new players into their circle, adding more risk and generating more reward. “Drain is not in-the-background cooking-type music,” warns Kunal, before winking: “Maybe it is for particularly adventurous chefs.”
Soul Selects Records presents an immersive four-song journey that reimagines JEFF The Brotherhood’s 2018 double-LP Magick Songs through the hypnotic lens of dub. Guided by spectral sound alchemist Blanc du Blanc, these live, unadulterated mixes plunge deep into echo and low-end ritual—where riffs dissolve into astral repeats, basslines breathe, and structure blurs into feel. Captured direct-to-stereo at Soul Selects Studio (Hopewell, NJ), the set reframes the band’s fearless, genre-melting spirit as a sound system séance.
